Venture Print Implements Eco-friendly Practices
PLYMOUTH, NH Venture Print Unlimited, Inc. announces the installation of a Prestek Dimension 412 C-T-P Anthem metal chemistry-free platesetting system. The system implements new technology that allows Venture to go directly from computer-generated files to metal printing plates, bypassing several steps involved in older technology. The platesetting system can accommodate all four printing presses operated at Venture, from the smallest single-color press, through the mid-size multi-color press up to the largest size press, which can run a 20.5"x28.5" sheet. Three of the benefits of bypassing several steps include: faster processing, improved quality and lower prices on offset printing projects.
In addition to the previously mentioned benefits, this new technology gives Venture the opportunity to be even more environmentally friendly. The process removes all silver-based negatives, developer, fixer, paper flats, plate-processing chemicals, and cleaning pads out of their waste stream. The net effect is a 50% drop in hazardous waste disposal. "As a person concerned about the future of our environment, I constantly strive to cut down on the waste that leaves our shop," says Dawn Ashley Lemieux, company president. "The purchase of the new platesetting equipment is a good move for our clients all the way around. It improves quality and turnaround time at the same time it lowers prices and helps reduce the amount of waste produced in the process. We have been shopping for this type of equipment for several years, but held out for technology that could help us in our ongoing efforts to lower our environmental impact."
Venture Print has chosen this year to make significant changes in the way they do business to reduce their impact on the environment. Recycling efforts already in effect include: cardboard recycling (including making that recycling available to three of their neighbors: Peppercorn Natural Foods, Spinelli Theatre and North Star Rentals), metal recycling and some paper recycling. Some of the Common Man family of restaurants use makeready paper that would normally go to landfills as order paper, and teachers and nonprofit groups use scrap paper for art projects.
Recycled papers are more readily available then they were a few years ago. "As designers, some of our favorite recommended papers are also very environmentally friendly," says Lemieux. "Mohawk Papers' Via line is now recycled with 30-100% post-consumer waste content. It is produced with wind power, a renewable energy source. All virgin fiber content is elemental chlorine-free and all recycled content is process chlorine-free. We think that all these attributes are important in helping to minimize the impact we have on our planet."
